The layering of the wings was the central challenge and the central idea of this piece. Each pair exists in its own layer of reality, the first fully present, the second beginning to fade, the third almost gone. Together they create a sense of depth and movement that makes the bird feel like it is caught mid-transition between two worlds. The offset placement of each layer adds to the feeling of motion, as if the wings are still in the process of opening.

The thorns that wind around the figure bring a sense of tension to the composition. Something this ethereal and free, partially bound. The dark tail and scattered black particles push the mystical feeling further, dissolving the edges of the piece into the skin and making the boundary between tattoo and body feel intentionally unclear. A piece about presence, disappearance, and everything in between.
